Fascias and soffits London,
and the gutters they carry.
A gutter that overflows soaks the wall below it and rots the fascia behind it. It is one of the cheapest things on a building to fix and one of the most expensive to ignore.
Rot behind,
water below.
Look up from the pavement after heavy rain. Water spilling over the front of a gutter, a dark streak down the brickwork under a joint, flaking paint or open grained timber on the underside of the eaves, and moss along the gutter line all point to the same thing. Fascias, soffits and gutters are reached from the same access, so they are worth dealing with together rather than one at a time.
Fascias
The fascia board carries the gutter. When the gutter leaks at the back the timber stays wet and rots, and brackets stop holding. Rotten fascias are cut out and replaced, never hidden under a cover board.
Soffits
Soffits close the underside of the eaves and hold the roof ventilation. Shaded and slow to dry, they are where wet rot shows first and where birds and squirrels get in.
Gutters and downpipes
Blocked, sagging or leaking at the joints. Many only need clearing, realigning to the right fall and resealing.
Materials, buildings
and access.
uPVC, aluminium or timber
uPVC is low maintenance, aluminium suits slim modern rooflines, and period houses in conservation areas often keep timber with cast iron gutters.
Blocks and commercial buildings
Box and valley gutters behind parapets fail into the building rather than over the edge. Clearing them twice a year is the most useful planned maintenance a building can have.
Access
Ladder, tower, platform or scaffold depending on height, shown separately on the quote.
